Our Mission Statement

Bazetta Christian Church is called by God to be a community of faith that teaches the Good News of Jesus Christ, shares the love of God, and serves our world.

The Calling

Bazetta Christian Church is called by God to be a community of faith under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, led and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Identity

God is love, (I John 4:8), and we embrace the responsibility to express that love through our human relationships.

Purpose

We joyfully gather to worship God through proclaiming the Word and uniting around the Lord's Table.  The authority of Scripture directs us to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ, teach the love of God, and serve our world.

Statement of Core Values

  • Jesus Christ is Lord of our corporate and individual lives. Our strongest desire is to walk in the footsteps of Jesus in service and worship.

  • Our church is open to all people regardless of race, color, ethnicity, class or physical condition.  Church offices and positions are not restricted  by the above conditions but only by the suitability of the individual according to spiritual gifts and graces.

  • The Lord’s Table belongs to the Lord.  We practice open Communion for all Christians regardless of denominational affiliation.

  • We practice believer’s baptism by immersion as being the biblical example set for us through Jesus and the early church.

  • Our church is congregational in governance in matters of policy and practice.

  • The Elders are the spiritual leaders of the church with the pastor being a senior Elder by virtue of call, education, and ordination in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

  • Our congregation is cooperative with the regional and general manifestations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

  • In all matters of human opinion we will “agree to disagree agreeably.”  That is, we will respect our brothers and sisters in Christ, even though we may not always agree.  “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”

  • Our church values people above all things material and Christ over all people.

  • Children are a gift form the Lord.  This church should always be a welcoming place for all children—a sanctuary and a haven for all.

  • We believe in the prayer of Jesus that “we should all be one” and work to foster ecumenicity and respect for Christians of other traditions and practices.  We celebrate the diversity we have in Christ and perceive diversity as a strength among Christians.   We need not do everything the same in order to be one.  We are united ultimately in the Holy Spirit who makes us one.

  • We believe in the power of prayer to accomplish God’s will in the world.  The power of prayer sustains our life together in the church.

  • We seek God’s revelation in the world through the Holy Spirit, Scripture, tradition, prayer and reason.

A Brief History of our Congregation

The church at West Bazetta was founded in 1848 by Calvin Smith, a noted evangelist for the Restoration Movement.  The first building was located on the southeast corner of an intersection known as Klondike Corners.  In 1893 the building was moved across the road to the northwest corner, our present location.  The original building can now be seen as the centerpiece of a historical village on the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

Our present structure was build in several phases by the people of the congregation.  The sanctuary was completed in 1972.  Handicap-accessible restrooms and a state-of-the-art waste treatment system due to our proximity to the Mosquito Creek Reservoir, built in 1993.  Our sanctuary was extensively renovated in 2000, in a more open and contemporary design.

Bazetta Christian Childcare Center began in 1992 and serves the community as a pre-school, childcare center and after-school program.  Bazetta Christian Church has an active program for children and youth involving fellowship groups and Sunday School.  Boy Scout Troop 50 sponsored by the church has been active foralmost 60 years.  In 1998 we celebrated our Sesquicentennial in service to Christ and our community.
